Complete Guide to
JustChill Live
New to random video chat? This guide walks you through everything — from your first connection to mastering every feature. You will be chatting with strangers from around the world in minutes.
What Is JustChill Live?
JustChill Live is a free, browser-based random video chat platform that instantly connects you with a stranger from anywhere in the world. Think of it as a global conversation roulette wheel — you never know who you will meet next. One moment you might be chatting with someone in Brazil, the next with someone in Japan or Nigeria.
Unlike social media platforms, JustChill Live requires no account creation, no profile setup, and no followers or friend lists. You simply enter your name, press Start, and within seconds you are face-to-face with a new person. The simplicity is intentional — we believe meaningful conversations do not require complicated technology.
JustChill Live uses WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication), the same open standard used by Google Meet and other leading video conferencing tools. This technology enables secure, encrypted, direct video connections between browsers without any software installation. The result is a fast, high-quality video experience that works on any modern device.
Step-by-Step: Starting Your First Chat
Open JustChill Live in Your Browser
Visit justchill.live in any modern web browser. JustChill Live works on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari without any downloads or installations. For the best experience, use the latest version of your browser. The site loads quickly and works on both desktop computers and mobile devices.
Enter Your Name
On the home page, you will see a text field asking for your name. Enter your first name or any nickname you want to use. This is the only information you need to provide — no email address, no password, no account creation. The name you enter will be shown to your chat partner during the session so they know what to call you.
Allow Camera and Microphone Access
When you click Start and arrive on the video page, your browser will display a permission prompt asking if JustChill Live can access your camera and microphone. Click Allow. Without these permissions, video chat cannot function. If you accidentally clicked Block, go to your browser's site permissions settings for justchill.live and change both camera and microphone to Allow, then refresh the page.
Wait to Be Matched
After granting permissions, the system will begin searching for another available user. The searching animation on screen indicates you are in the matching queue. Depending on how many people are currently online, this may take anywhere from one second to about thirty seconds. Peak hours — typically evenings and weekends — have the most users, so matching is fastest during those times.
Start Your Conversation
Once connected, your partner's video will appear on the main screen and your own camera feed will show in the sidebar (desktop) or as a small picture-in-picture in the corner (mobile). Say hello, introduce yourself, and start chatting. You can see the status indicator at the top of the page confirm 'Connected' once the video link is established. Now have fun!
Use the Controls
The control bar at the bottom of the screen contains everything you need. The Mic button mutes or unmutes your microphone. The Camera button turns your video feed on or off. The Layout button (grid icon) switches between Focus layout (one large video) and Split View (side-by-side). The Chat button (on mobile) opens the text chat drawer. The Next button skips to a new partner.
All Features Explained
JustChill Live includes several features designed to give you flexibility and control over your video chat experience. Here is what each one does.
Focus Layout
The default layout shows your partner's video filling the main area. Your own camera is displayed in a smaller secondary view — on desktop this appears in the sidebar panel, on mobile it is a small picture-in-picture in the bottom corner. You can click the Maximize button on the secondary video to swap it to the main area.
Split View (Google Meet Style)
Click the grid icon in the control bar to activate Split View. Both you and your partner will be shown in equal-sized panels — side by side on desktop, stacked vertically on mobile. This mode is useful when you want to see both participants at the same size. Click the Focus button on either panel to return to standard layout.
Text Chat
During any video session you can also exchange text messages. On desktop, the chat panel is on the right side of the screen. On mobile, tap the Chat button in the control bar to open a slide-up drawer. Type your message and press Enter or tap Send. Messages are visible only during the active session — they are not stored.
The Next button at the bottom right of the screen disconnects you from your current partner and immediately begins searching for a new one. Use this if the conversation is not going well, your partner is behaving inappropriately, or you simply want to meet someone new. There is no limit to how many times you can skip.
Mute & Camera Controls
Toggle your microphone on or off with the Mic button. Toggle your camera on or off with the Camera button. Both are in the bottom control bar. When muted, your partner cannot hear you — your video feed continues. When your camera is off, your partner sees a blank placeholder — the session remains active and you can still hear and see them.
Mobile Support
JustChill Live is fully responsive for smartphones and tablets. On mobile, the video page uses a full-screen layout with your partner's feed filling the screen, a small picture-in-picture for your own feed, and a thumb-friendly control bar at the bottom. Tap the Chat button to open the text chat in a bottom drawer. Tap the PiP to swap videos.

Troubleshooting Common Problems
⚠Camera permission is blocked
Click the lock icon or camera icon in your browser's address bar. Find the settings for Camera and Microphone and change them from 'Block' to 'Allow'. Refresh the page. On Chrome for Android, go to Settings → Site Settings → Camera/Microphone and find JustChill Live in the list.
⚠Stuck on 'Searching...' for a long time
This usually means there are fewer users online at the moment. Try refreshing the page and searching again. Peak traffic hours (evenings and weekends in popular time zones) will have faster matching. If the issue persists, check your internet connection or try a different browser.
⚠Video is blurry or keeps freezing
Poor video quality is typically caused by a slow or unstable internet connection. Move closer to your Wi-Fi router, or use a wired ethernet connection if possible. You can also try closing other browser tabs and applications that might be using bandwidth. A minimum of 1–2 Mbps upload speed is recommended.
⚠The other person cannot hear me
First, check that you are not muted — the Mic button in the control bar should not be showing a red indicator. Next, confirm that your browser has permission to use your microphone. Check that the correct microphone is selected in your browser's media settings. If using a headset, ensure it is properly connected.
⚠I cannot see the other person's video
The connection may not have been established yet — wait a few seconds after the 'Connected' status appears. If the issue persists, your partner may have their camera turned off. You can try clicking Next to connect to a new partner with an active camera.
⚠Chat messages are not sending
Text chat requires an active connection between both parties. If the status indicator shows 'Searching...' rather than 'Connected', wait until a connection is established. If you are connected but messages still won't send, your partner's browser may not have supported the data channel — try skipping to a new partner.
Tips for Better Conversations
The quality of a random video chat experience depends largely on the energy you bring to it. Here are some practical tips that experienced users have found helpful:
- ✓Good lighting makes a big difference. Face a window or use a desk lamp pointed at your face — being well-lit makes your video look much clearer and more inviting.
- ✓Use headphones or earbuds to reduce echo and background noise. This makes the conversation more comfortable for your partner.
- ✓Start with an open question rather than just 'hi'. Something like 'Where are you chatting from today?' or 'What's your favourite thing to do on weekends?' gets a conversation going much faster.
- ✓Be patient if your first few connections don't go well. Not every random match will result in a great conversation — that is perfectly normal.
- ✓If you find someone you enjoy talking with and want to continue the conversation, you can mutually choose to exchange social media handles. Only do this when you feel comfortable and have been chatting long enough to feel the connection is genuine.
- ✓Respect cultural differences. Users on JustChill Live come from all over the world. What is a normal conversational topic in one culture may be considered rude or invasive in another. Approach international conversations with curiosity and sensitivity.
- ✓Keep your background clean and neutral. A tidy background makes a better impression and avoids revealing identifying details about your location.
