Online Safety Guide for
Random Video Chat

Random video chatting can be a fun, exciting way to meet people from around the world. However, like all online interactions, it is important to take precautions to protect yourself and your privacy. This guide covers everything you need to know to have a safe, positive experience on JustChill Live.

Why Online Safety Matters

Random video chat platforms connect you instantly with strangers from any part of the world. This openness is what makes the experience exciting — but it also means that not everyone you meet will have good intentions. The internet is home to a wide range of people, and while the majority are simply looking for a friendly conversation, a small minority may attempt to misuse the platform.

Practising basic online safety habits protects not only you but also your family. Many users of random video chat platforms are teenagers and young adults who may be less experienced with identifying online threats. The habits you build now — protecting your identity, trusting your instincts, and knowing when to walk away — are skills that will serve you for life across all online interactions.

JustChill Live is built with your privacy in mind. We use WebRTC technology for peer-to-peer connections, which means your video streams are encrypted and travel directly between devices rather than through our servers. We do not store video calls, audio recordings, or chat messages. However, technology alone is not sufficient — your behaviour and awareness are equally important layers of protection.

10 Essential Safety Rules for JustChill Live

01

Never Share Personal Information

This is the most important rule of any random video chat platform. Do not share your full name, home address, school or workplace name, phone number, email address, or social media handles during a session. Once personal information is shared, it cannot be taken back. A stranger who seemed friendly might use your information in ways you never intended. Keep your identity private and enjoy conversations on a first-name-only basis.

02

Be Mindful of What's Behind You

Your background reveals more than you may realize. Before starting a video chat, look at what is visible behind you in the camera frame. Avoid showing house numbers, street names visible through windows, school uniforms, trophies with your name, or identifiable landmarks. A neutral wall or a tidy room background is ideal. Consider using a virtual background if your device supports it.

03

Trust Your Instincts — Skip Freely

JustChill Live has a Skip button for a reason. If any conversation makes you feel uncomfortable, anxious, or pressured in any way, press Skip immediately. You are never obligated to continue a conversation with anyone. Legitimate users will not push you to stay. If someone asks you to share personal photos, move to a different platform, or do anything that feels wrong, leave the chat right away. Your comfort and safety always come first.

04

Do Not Click External Links

Be very cautious if someone sends you a link in the chat during a video session. Malicious links can lead to phishing websites designed to steal your passwords, install malware on your device, or trick you into revealing personal information. Legitimate users rarely need to share links in a random video chat. If someone insists on sharing a link or tries to redirect you to another website, treat it as a red flag and end the session.

05

Keep Your Location Private

Never reveal your specific location during a chat — this includes your city, neighborhood, nearby landmarks, or the time zone you are in. Location information combined with other details can make it easy for someone to find you in real life. Avoid mentioning local events, sports teams, or weather in ways that narrow down where you live. JustChill Live never shares your location with other users — but what you say in conversation is entirely in your control.

06

Understand That Strangers May Lie

In any anonymous platform, people may misrepresent their age, gender, profession, or intentions. Someone claiming to be a teenager might be an adult, and vice versa. Approach every conversation with healthy skepticism. Do not form deep emotional attachments quickly or share secrets with people you have just met. If someone's story changes frequently or something feels inconsistent, it is better to err on the side of caution and move on.

07

Report Inappropriate Behavior

If you encounter nudity, sexual content, harassment, hate speech, or any other inappropriate behavior, do not hesitate to report it. Use JustChill Live's Contact page to submit a report. Include as many details as possible, such as the approximate time of the incident. Your reports help us improve the platform and protect all users. Reporting is not just encouraged — it is an act of responsibility toward the entire community.

08

Use a Secure and Updated Browser

For the best and safest experience, use an up-to-date browser such as the latest version of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge. Outdated browsers may have security vulnerabilities that can be exploited. Make sure your operating system is also kept up to date. Avoid using public computers or shared devices for video chat sessions, as your camera and microphone permissions may persist after you leave.

09

Set Browser Permissions Intentionally

When JustChill Live requests access to your camera and microphone, your browser will ask for permission. Only grant this permission when you are genuinely ready to use the platform. After you are done, you can revoke camera and microphone permissions through your browser settings. This ensures that no website — including JustChill Live — can access your camera or microphone without your active consent.

10

Be Aware of Screen Recording

JustChill Live does not record your conversations. However, other users could potentially record their screen using third-party software. While this violates our Terms and Conditions and is illegal in many jurisdictions, be aware that anything you do on camera could theoretically be captured. Behave on camera the same way you would in public. Do not share anything you would not want to be seen by others.

A Note for Parents and Guardians

JustChill Live is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We strongly encourage parents and guardians to have open conversations with teenagers about the risks of anonymous video chatting. If a young person does use a random video chat platform, they should do so in a common area of the home where an adult is nearby.

Parental control software can help limit access to random video chat platforms on family devices. Many modern routers also offer content filtering features that can block these types of websites at the network level. Most importantly, creating a trusting environment where teenagers feel comfortable reporting uncomfortable online encounters to a parent or trusted adult is the most effective form of protection.

If your child has encountered inappropriate content online, you can report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) at CyberTipline.org in the United States, or to the relevant national authority in your country.

How JustChill Live Protects Your Privacy

We are committed to being transparent about how our platform works. JustChill Live uses WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication), an open standard technology supported by all major browsers. WebRTC enables direct, encrypted peer-to-peer video and audio connections between two users without the media passing through our servers.

Our signalling server facilitates the initial handshake between two users — exchanging the technical information needed to establish a connection — but it never sees or handles the actual video or audio content. Once a connection is established, your video and audio travel directly and securely from your device to your chat partner's device.

We do not create user accounts, so we do not store usernames, passwords, or profile information. The name you enter at the start of a session is used only to identify you to your chat partner during that session and is not retained by our systems. We do not sell, trade, or transfer any user data to outside parties. Please read our full Privacy Policy for complete details.

Tips for a Positive Video Chat Experience

Safety and enjoyment are not mutually exclusive. Here are some tips that will help you get the most out of your JustChill Live sessions while maintaining your safety:

  • Start the conversation with a friendly greeting and introduce yourself by first name only.
  • Be curious and open-minded — people from different cultures and backgrounds offer fascinating perspectives.
  • If a conversation stalls, ask open-ended questions about hobbies, favourite music, movies, or travel experiences.
  • Use the text chat alongside the video to share things that are hard to express verbally, such as a recommended song or book title.
  • Keep sessions to a reasonable length — fresh conversations with new people are part of what makes the experience fun.
  • If you want to continue talking with someone you enjoy chatting with, you can both choose to exchange contact details — but only do this if you feel fully comfortable and safe.
  • Respect other users. Treat everyone the way you would want to be treated, regardless of their background, appearance, or opinions.
